Field Hockey Camp 2012

This week McKenna attended her very first sports camp.   She found that she really liked playing indoor field hockey last winter and definitely wanted to participate in the mini camp her coaches were putting on at Bucknell this summer.

The evening before camp she told us that her sneakers seemed a little small.  They were definitely snug...and BRAND new!  Like,  only worn 3 times...at Disney World...in MAY!  Geesh!  She's most certainly growing this summer!  So, first thing Wednesday morning Earl took her to Dick's to pick out a new pair.

She looks so grown up to me!  (I've been saying that A LOT lately.)
It was a great couple of days and McKenna enjoyed herself so much.  Her coaches are amazing and she learned a lot.  She tells us that she prefers to play defense but she understands that she needs to learn all the positions right now.   So wise!     We are all looking forward to the indoor season starting up in November.

 They are just too cute....

For words!

Kinley, You're 11 Months Old!

Kinley, you are already 11 months old.   I sat holding you last night as you slept in my arms and I just couldn't get past the fact that you have grown so big, seemingly so fast.   Life over the past 11 months have gone by in a flash.  You suddenly are a bright, vibrant, funny little girl and you have left so much about being a baby behind already.

Apparently you are over the monthly stickers.  I love this picture progression.  It's so...You.  We used to say that McKenna had a memory like a steel trap.  You definitely follow her footsteps and you do not miss a single trick.
You finally learned to crawl a few weeks ago - June 28th to be exact - you decided that crawling forward would be more productive than scooting backward.    This week while we were at the beach you stepped it up and began pulling yourself up on pretty much everything you could find.
Once we got home you began walking behind your stroller and it's obvious there is no turning back now.
We celebrated the Fourth of July...
And attended Bible School...
And recently returned from your first trip to the beach.
You continue to be an easy baby.   Even sleeping is getting better.  You recently slept through the night for an entire week while we were at the beach.   I know that it will just continue to get better.  You quickly gave up baby food after being introduced to table food.   And lucky for us you will eat literally everything we give you including hummus which your siblings hate!    You're 18.9 pounds and wearing 6-12 months clothes.  Mostly 12 months!   And still fitting in your size 4 diapers.  You have four top teeth and three on the bottom making your grin a little lopsided.  Your vocabulary sometimes amazes us.  You say mama, dada, dog, Tucker, and baby.  And recently you started signing "more" and "all done"  although "all done" can be mistaken for "bye bye".  You love to hug your baby dolls and point to their mouth, eyes and nose until we tell you what they are.   And you absolutely LOVE your brother and sister.  It's no wonder because they spoil you terribly!   McKenna does not like to see you upset and Cooper loves to hug and kiss you and make you laugh.
You continue to make us smile every day.  Daddy and I are so blessed to have you, McKenna and Cooper.  So, so blessed.  Happy 11 months, Kinley!  We love you!

Bunches of Bethany Beach Pictures

Today we returned from our second Bethany Beach Vacation.  The players were a little different this year, as we went with my mom and dad, Shane and Jeri and Gram and Pap.
We had a good trip down, leaving at 5am in hopes that the kids would sleep most of the trip.  Big fail on that part.  No one got any shut eye, with the exception of Kinley.   Good thing too, because she had me up all night prior to our leaving.  It rained all the way to Delaware but was bright and sunny by the time we pulled into the beach house.
We can't say that our trip was without incident as there were more than a couple bumps along the way...more on that later.
Kinley and Pappy enjoying some time on the beach together.  I should point out that this is just hours before Pappy, ahem, lost his glasses in the ocean!    Thanks to Uncle Kyle, a spare pair were on their way.   The next afternoon he was back in business.
We thought the bad news was behind us but in truth it just kept getting worse.  Later in the week McKenna suffered a Boogie boarding accident that left her with a cut above her lip and caused a little anxiety about going back in the water.   On Wednesday Pap Landis took a trip to the emergency room after the stomach bug struck.   Add to that our failing canopy and my mom's swimmer's ear and you can say we had a "memorable" vacation.
BUT, it wasn't all bad!  We were blessed in that Kinley slept ALL NIGHT, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!  I don't know if it was the ocean air or what - quite frankly, I don't care.  It was the.best.sleep I've had in well over a year.
Kinley loved the beach too - sand and all.  She only ate it once but played in it the entire time.  She refused to crawl in it but instead scooted her way to where she wanted to be.   When she got tired she slept under the shade of the canopy and looked like she didn't have a care in the world.
One of our favorite nights was tie dye t-shirt night!  Pappy was such a good sport about it!

Cooper eventually was persuaded back into the water and decided to take his chances with the Boogie board.   He didn't quite get the timing right but he and Earl sure had fun trying.

Julie and Hayden joined us later in the week and we enjoyed visiting with them.

We only got dressed up and went out two nights.   And that was just to dinner and part of the boardwalk.   Earl and I agreed that Disney with three kids is much, much easier than the beach with three kids.   By the time we got back from the beach and got everyone showered each day I was BEAT.   Even still, we managed to cross everything off of our 2012 Beach To Do List, including Cold Stone Ice Cream, Fun Land, Go Karts, Outlets, Big Fish Grill...and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting.  We did not ever make it to sunrise on the beach but as I said the sleep was just too good to pass up!
Dinner at our favorite place - The Big Fish Grill.
Fun Land!  The kids never get tired of that place.  Even when it's 100+ degrees in that building and there are a million people pushing their way through.    We did enjoy playing the games on the boardwalk and came home with an array of stuffed toys.
After taking care of Pap for a few days, Gram finally got to spend some time on the beach.

Friday was a rainy day so we spent time at the outlets.  I don't have any pictures of that because it's hard to hold the camera and the credit card at the same time!   We had a nice afternoon shopping with mom and dad and then enjoyed steaks on the grill and some time watching the waves on the beach as a storm approached.
It would be great to say our trip ended on a positive note but it's worth mentioning that by Friday night Kinley had a high fever and was working on a raging sore throat to go with it.   The good news is that she slept almost the whole way home.   Thankfully by Monday morning she was on the mend.
And so, perhaps the title of this post should be "I Survived Bethany Beach 2012".   No matter what we had some good times and were thankful that everyone got home in one piece.

July 4th 2012

Happy Fourth of July!!
On Saturday we joined our friends and neighbors for the annual Lewisburg Fourth of July Parade.   We have enjoyed sitting with friends in front of the bank for the past few years.   This year we actually had to put our chairs out the afternoon before.  I always said I would never be that person jockeying for a parade spot the night before the event.  However, as Megan pointed out, we've got lots of little people who we can't disappoint.    And I'll be honest, on a day where the forcast promised temperatures of 90 or greater, I was happy to have a spot in the shade!
This was Kinley's first patriotic parade and she seemed to really enjoy herself.

This is my favorite picture from the morning.  We've been taking a Mowry/Dugan picture every year at this parade.  I can't easily put my fingers on the first one but let's just say it featured only Joshua, McKenna and Cooper.  Our numbers have since doubled but our ability to get all of them in one picture....well, you can see how well that worked out!
It's obvious I have lots of pictures of Kinley but she can't tell me to stop taking her picture
This girl can and will though.  Immediately after the shutter closed on this picture I was firmly told that was the last one.

I was looking back through blog posts of past July 4th Parades.  It was fun (and a bit sad) to see how much the kids have grown and changed over the years.
