It's been an adjustment getting used to have a structure obstructing our once pleasant view. We've made several necessary adjustments for window coverings and even landscape plans in order to provide screen between our house and our new neighbor. When the landscape company came out to see the yard and draw up plans we told him that the dogwood trees on the side of the house needed replaced. In all the years we had lived here they had never, ever bloomed.
So imagine my surprise and delight when I the pink blooms began to appear on this tree directly outside my kitchen window. The tree is 7 years old and this is the very first time it has bloomed.
It's not perfect; it leans a bit to one side and really should be pruned. But it's beautiful.
I realized that there is just one explanation for this strange twist of events.
He makes all things beautiful in his time ~ Ecclesiastes 3:11
As it turns out, our view is not so bad after all. Like our tree, it may not be perfect. Some days the new house still causes us a little angst. But our new neighbors have so far proven themselves both friendly and helpful. They have introduced us to their circle of friends and included us in social events where we have had the chance to meet new people. Having been through grad school and recently completed their doctoral work, I have even found a friend who relates to my current status and has provided helpful resources to help me in my research class.
I don't really know what the future holds. I don't know if the tree will bloom next year or if new friendships will stick. I do know that God is at work in everything and this is just one more example of that. He has brought a beautiful pink blooms to remind me of that every day.
