Happy 4th Birthday, Kinley

Dear Kinley,
Where to begin?  You're four!  And so very proud of it.   I am in awe of how much you have grown and matured this summer.   I guess it's been a different process for me watching as you've hit this milestone.   When McKenna and Cooper turned four I always had a new baby in my arms and it seemed they had grown up in an instant.   But with you, with you I've had nothing to divert my attention and I'll admit it has been fun.

You continue to be a sassy, know what you want and go get it kind of girl.  And if you don't want it, well everyone better watch out because you'll make sure that message comes across loud and clear.  Weighing in at just over 30 pounds and reaching just toward the fifth percentile for height,  you are sure to make up for your petite frame with your huge personality.   You have absolutely no idea that you are not 11 or 12 because the big kids long ago gave up trying to leave you out of things.
This year for your birthday you asked for a Hello Kitty theme.   We opted for a small family gathering of pizza, cake and swimming at Mimi and Pappy's.   It was a nice evening where we all enjoyed celebrating you and barely took any pictures.    It makes me slightly sad that I failed to even get a picture of you with Daddy and I on your actual birthday.

A few days after your birthday we celebrated with a couple of  your friends at Bloom Bounce.  It was a fabulous Friday morning of snacks, bouncing and little giggles.   It is fun to see you developing friendships and relationships.    You recently returned to daycare where you are thriving in a new room that emphasizes learning independence as much as learning letters and numbers.  You tell me that you like to play with your friends, do music class and hear the Bible stories.  Dance starts this week and even there you will enter a new class, moving up to pre-ballet.   You are eager to start because as you say, "I just can't wait to get back on that stage.  It's so fun."
I hope that you enjoyed turning four as much as we have enjoyed celebrating you.   You and I, we have our challenges, but I am beyond thankful for the gift that you are to our family.   I hate that you are getting older and sometimes you and I talk about it.   The other day I might have shed a tear while snuggling you close.   You quickly put your hands on either side of my face, looked straight into my eyes and said, "I'm getting bigger, Mommy, but it's okay.  Wipe your eyes and make your face into a smile."   Who can refuse a request like that?  Certainly not me.  So we look onward to growing and changing and embracing this new season of life.  One strangely absent of babies and now even toddlers.   I love you, Kinley.  Welcome to being a "big kid".
