What do you do on a rainy summer day? You make strawberry jelly with Mimi!
The weather has been really disappointing since school has been over. We fully expected to have a tan by now from spending our afternoons at Mimi and Pappy's pool. However, we've been left high and...well, definitely not dry.
I've been trying to keep the kids busy and Mimi presented a great opportunity to help my cause when she texted me and said she was going to make homemade strawberry jelly. I quickly offered up my kitchen and a few extra hands if she was willing to let us help.
McKenna spent some time helping me take the tops off the berries and clean them. Six quarts in all!
Kinley wore Cooper's apron and supervised from her perch at the end of the counter.
We smooshed and measured...
Carefully timed...
Then filled our jars.
I think filling the jars was McKenna's favorite part. We had quite an efficient assembly line going.
Cooper and Mimi carefully put the lids on the jars.
Our fridge and freezer are now stocked with homemade strawberry jelly. And our hearts are filled with the best kinds of memories.
This morning we taste tested. We were all thrilled with the result!
