It would be nice to say that today, the first day of the school year, crept up on us. It was quite the opposite. It seemed to be racing toward us a mock speed. The kids were ready and not ready all at the same time if that is possible. I think they were excited to see their friends but sad to see the lazy days of summer go.
Each year, from my place behind the camera, I find myself astounded at how grown up McKenna suddenly seems to me. Maybe it's just the day and the fact that I finally pause at the end of the busy summer to notice. She is becoming such a wonderful young woman.
Cooper seems to have sprouted up over the summer though I'm not quite sure how many inches he grew in a few short months. I think he is going to love first grade and will grow in his learning. He ran back upstairs for a chapter book today to put in his backpack. Like his sister, he doesn't want to be caught without something to read should he find himself with some down time.
Kinley may just be a budding photographer. She took this great picture of the kids and I.
McKenna and Cooper,
I'm sad today that our summer 2014 is now over. I had an absolute blast doing so many activities with you this summer. You were my helpers and my friends and the best kids a mom could every ask for (most days!). My days aren't quite the same without your conversations in the background or your physical presence in the house. It feels pretty lonely so I'm glad I have Kinley to keep me company. She misses you too and oh how she wanted to get on that school bus with you this morning. I know you are going to have a great year and I am excited to see what first and fifth grades have in store for us. Sports are starting up soon and I will be back to teaching two nights a week. It's going to be crazy busy but I want you to always remember how much I love you. Happy first day!
Love, Mom
